9 charged in BPL fixing
The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has found nine individuals to be involved in the match fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
ICC Chief Executive Officer David Richardson disclosed this at a joint press conference with the BCB at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan was beside him at the conference.
“Following a comprehensive investigation carried out by the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, nine individuals have been charged with various offences that are alleged to have been committed under the BCB’s Anti Corruption Code during the 2013 Bangladesh Premier League,” said Richardson.
"Charge letters detailing the allegations have been issued to the relevant individuals today. But ICC and BCB want to emphasise the importance of recognising that all those charged remain innocent until proven guilty," he added.
“Moreover, its very important to know that in accordance with the BCB’s Anti Corruption Code the identities of these individuals will not be disclosed until the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings that have now been instituted against them.”
Richardson continued, “Of the nine individuals, seven have been charged for fixing related offences with two others have been charged for failing to comply with the obligations to report corrupt approaches that were made to them."
"Those individuals facing the most serious fixing related charges have been provisionally suspended and are immediately barred from participating in all cricket activities organised or recognised by the BCB, the ICC or any of the ICC’s member associations, pending resolution of the disciplinary proceedings brought against them."Friday, July 12, 2013

Fixing Scent: Kohli's captaincy in focus against SL
Triangular tournaments can be hard on the ego of the team that leaves the competition first. Unlike a bigger multi-team tournament, there is no consolatory semi-final finish, or a bronze medal. There is only a lonely last place. This series has just started, but with West Indies nine points clear of both India and Sri Lanka, that last-place tag, for now, has gravitated towards the two subcontinent sides. The familiar foes, who have played each other in five different countries in the last couple of years, both need a win in the last match of the series at Sabina Park to ensure some breathing space before the entourage moves to Port of Spain.

That these two teams know each other inside out is common knowledge. While the familiarity has worked in India's favour as their batsmen have decoded the unconventionality of Sri Lanka's attack, the same can't be said about the latter. They have repeatedly wilted against India's simple game plan - 'whatever you score, we'll do better'. The result is that when the two meet, it is almost like India's XI is up against Sri Lanka's IX, with the threat posed by Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis to other teams reduced to a dud against India batsmen.

In cricket, however, most of the times, it is not a test of man-to-man strength. A special innings, an outstanding spell or even an exceptional instance of fielding is all that is required to overcome an opposition. On Friday, it was Chris Gayle who did that; on Sunday, it was Johnson Charles who blazed away. Sri Lanka have players who can do that as well - Kumar Sangakkara showed it against England in a tall chase at The Oval during the Champions Trophy - but the question is, can they do it against India?

India's juggernaut was brought to a halt on Sunday by West Indies, but only just. West Indies' bowlers set a template on how to stifle India's stroke-makers on a slow pitch, and their batsmen then rolled along comfortably as the surface eased out. In the absence of MS Dhoni, who didn't take the field after injuring his hamstring while batting, India fought hard, but were tripped by a resolute last-wicket stand. Virat Kohli, the stand-in captain, admitted the team missed Dhoni's calmness during that frantic ending.Monday, June 24, 2013

Spot fixers are problem not betting
Spot fixing racket not only wrecked ‘The gentleman’s game’, but also turned out to be one of the major threats to Brand Cricket and Brand IPL in the country. While there is no questioning the fact that cricket is a religion in India and will never die, there is also the reality that a number of people have lost faith in the nature of how things work at a higher level.
The controversy might not have affected Brand IPL directly; however, having names such as Sreeshanth and Ankeet Chavan meddled in murky rackets affected the performance of the property on social media.
To bring back the trust and the charm of the game, authorities need to deal with the illegal nature of betting, said Kapil Gupta, Founder and CEO, OMLogic. He stressed that the serious and illegal nature of gambling has impacted the one sport that Indians love. To change this and maintain the brand image, audiences should know how a legal betting system would look.
“Betting on cricket is not the problem, the problem is fixing. We sincerely believe that the best way to solve the spot fixing scandal and bring back the trust in the game is by providing people engaging platforms and games that allow them to bet harmlessly,” added Gupta.
To give the audience an opportunity to get a whiff of the real fun of betting, OMLogic has designed a game named UNFIX – Save Cricket, Play Now. The game gives the users an option to bet on the upcoming matches with points instead of money.
“Cricket being our national pastime, it is only natural for all of us to want to foretell how a game is going to go. In light of the recent controversy about spot fixing, we decided to make a fun and engaging game, leveraging what we love best – cricket and predicting and most of all, predicting in cricket,” said Gupta.
The game has various features such as fun zone, leaders’ board and redeem. Each feature helps the user get a complete betting experience virtually. More than 20 per cent people, who have gotten to the game, have played the game so far.
“We expect UNFIX to be promoted by itself. The first version is built as a Facebook application and we are continuously adding features, promoting users to share with their friends. We are also evaluating partnerships with B2C Brands and other organisations for promotion,” commented Gupta.
Many such ‘unfixing’ techniques are required to positively change cricket’s brand image.

SEXY SHILPA and Match Fixing Links
Special Cell may call Shilpa Shetty and other team owners on IPL spot-fixing Case. Recently Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra surrenders passport to Delhi Police. Kundra has been told not to leave the country. This comes a day after he was questioned for almost 12 hours.Information on Kundra came to light during the interrogation of his friend Umesh Goenka, a businessman who reportedly used to ask RR players about strategy, team composition, pitch situation and even things like the possible winner of a match. Delhi Police recorded Goenka's statement under Section 164 CrPC in front of a magistrate. This bars him from retracting his statement. He reportedly gave important details on the involvement of others and more evidence on three arrested cricketers-S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila. Goenka was first questioned on Tuesday.
Kundra is Goenka's partner in his steel ingots manufacturing business called Ashwini Steel Private Limited in Ahmedabad. Goenka was reportedly present at most RR matches and interacted with the players and the team management. Sources said RR player Sidharth Trivedi named Goenka as one of those who interacted with the players and asked them about strategy. It was after this that Kundra was called for questioning.
Kundra was quizzed mainly on three aspects. He was asked about the capacity in which Goenka interacted with the management on team strategy and asked players other questions. Kundra was also asked about the "open parties his team players attended" with the bookies at the team hotel. Delhi Police also asked Kundra about his team's partnership and investment pattern since he only owns 11.7% in the team. The major stakes are held by people based abroad-Manoj Badale,Lachlan Murdoch and Suresh Chellaram.

Ashraful Ban for Fixing
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has asked Mohammad Ashraful to stay off all forms of the game until ICC's Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) submits its report on the raging spot-fixing controversy in the Bangladesh Premiere League (BPL).
BCB chief Nazmul Hasan told a press briefing Tuesday at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium that the BCB is expected to receive the full report of the ACSU investigation soon.
“ACSU’s investigation will end soon. They will submit the full report to BCB in seven days,” Nazmul Hasan said.
“I’ll ask you the press to be patient and wait for some more days. Those who were involved in spot-fixing will have to be given exemplary punishment. Otherwise you all know where will Bangladesh’s cricket end up.”
Nazmul Hassan scotched speculaation on how many players might be involved in the spot-fixing, saying 'it was not a matter to be discussed right now."
If accusations are proved against anyone, he will not be spared, Hasan said, insisting the ACSU and the BCB will jointly publish the report.
The ACSU officials arrived in Dhaka on Saturday evening. This is their fourth visit to investigate the spot-fixing allegations in the last two-and-half months.
The investigators questioned several Bangladesh cricketers during their last visit, but have not interrogated anyone else this time.
But Dhaka Gladiators owner Selim Chowdhury’s son and also team’s Managing Director Shihab Chowdhury was questioned on Sunday.

KKR, RCB 'match-fixing'
A recent IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore may also come under the scanner of Delhi Police for "match-fixing" after the interrogation of Rajasthan Royal's player Ajit Chandila and bookies who have been arrested on charges of spot-fixing, police sources said on Tuesday.
However, Delhi Police said as such they have no evidence to corroborate the claims of Chandila and others made during questioning in the IPL spot-fixing scandal or to come to a conclusion that the match was fixed.
The match in question is the one played between the two teams in Ranchi on May 12 which KKR won by four wickets.
Police sources came out with these details a day after the arrest of Bhupender Nagar, a security manager of two night clubs in Delhi.
They said Nagar was in touch with Chandila for the past seven-eight months as the player was a regular in the night club located in a prominent hotel in Nehru Place.
Nagar's friend Vicky, also a bouncer in a night club of a prominent hotel in New Delhi, wanted to get in touch with some cricketers in the first week of May. Within two days, Nagar took Chandila, who came from Bangalore, to a night club in Vasant Kunj where Vicky met him.
Later, Nagar, Vicky and two bookies went to Jaipur to meet Chandila to get some information on a particular match.
"Chandila was asked by the bookies about who will win the match between KKR and RCB on May 12. The spinner told the bookies that KKR will win and actually KKR won the match," a senior police official said.
The bookies had agreed to pay Rs 30 lakh to Chandila but refused to pay him later as they had claimed to have incurred loss due to a low-scoring match. RCB batted first and scored 115 and chasing the target, KKR made the winning run in the 20th over.
"Chandila was paid an advance of Rs two lakh. As the bookies later refused to pay the full amount, hectic negotiations followed. Later the bookies relented and gave Rs five lakh more to Vicky for paying Chandila.
"Instead of paying Chandila, Vicky and Nagar pocketed the money. Rs 2.85 lakh was kept by Vicky while Nagar kept the rest," the official said.
"This sequence matched with our interrogation of Chandila and Nagar. We also have telephone interception to this effect," he said.
However, the official was quick to add that he "cannot say the match was fixed" as there was "no evidence" to suggest so.
Asked about Chandila's version, the official said the spinner told them that he felt that there was such a possibility and so told bookies that KKR will win.
Queried why a bookie would pay such a huge amount for a player's guesswork, he said, "I do not believe him (Chandila). But these are the facts what we have. We do not have evidence now to say that this particular match was fixed."
Meanwhile Abhishek Shukla, a friend of Sreesanth who allegedly cleaned up the cricketer's hotel room soon after his arrest, was questioned by police.
"He is an event manager. We are questioning him. We want to know how Sreesanth spend the money. Shukla's PAN number was given for Sreesanth's transactions. He knows Sreesanth for five-six years," the official said.
